British ex-world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) could refuse an immediate rematch with his last year’s Ukrainian abuser Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) and instead fight the “biggest fight” in boxing against compatriot Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs).
But Joshua wanted to first regain the WBA/WBO/IBF titles he lost in the duel with Usyk, and for this he deserves a lot of respect, his promoter Eddie Hearn is sure.
“If you take into account the general public, the most common question I still get asked is when Joshua will fight Tyson Fury,” Hearn said. “Well, AJ has to fight Usyk first. But, to tell the truth, Anthony could probably skip this fight and face Fury.
“This[Joshua-Fury]fight will always be the biggest fight in boxing. But he (Joshua) didn’t want that. He wants his titles back,” Eddie says. “He thinks he can beat Usyk. So he should get a huge amount of recognition for not just fighting him once, but immediately deciding to rematch.”
Recall that the Usyk-Joshua rematch is scheduled for August 20 in Saudi Arabia.
By the way, Tyson Fury’s father feels that Joshua will beat Usyk, while Anthony himself told how his training has changed.
