Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. still believes that he could teach a lot and definitely do better than British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) if he took him to his team as a new coach.
But even if AJ chooses someone else, Roy knows exactly who the British ex-world champion should not fight next.
“Joshua can’t go to Wilder right after two losses to Usyk,” Jones said. “It just doesn’t make any sense. Find someone who isn’t a wild puncher like Wilder and come back with a win. Then you can easily implement all the improvements that your new coach will instill. And after you get used to these improvements, you can fight Wilder too, because you will improve as a boxer and gain confidence by going into the ring with someone like Deontay.
“But if you go against Wilder now, with two losses to Usyk, your confidence leaves a lot to be desired, and you miss a slap from him, then who knows what will happen,” continues Roy. “That would be madness. Wilder is a phenomenal heavyweight, one of the coolest punchers of our time. Against him, you must be sure of yourself and act unerringly. Because otherwise one mistake can cost you dearly. One mistake and it could all be over.”
Jones previously revealed why Joshua made the decision to leave Robert Garcia.
