UFC 278 tournament bout
The fight will take place on August 21 in Salt Lake City (Utah, USA) at the Vivint Arena and will be one of the main ones at the UFC 278 PPV tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 06:00 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
Former UFC Featherweight Champion and current No. 3 Bantamweight Jose Aldo (31-7) will fight No. 6 Merab Dvalishvili (14-4).
Aldu, after losing to Petr Yan for the UFC bantamweight belt two years ago, won three victories in a row by unanimous decision. He passed Marlon Vera, Pedro Munoz and in December 2021 after five rounds Rob Font.
Dvalishvili started his career in the UFC with a record of 0-2, but at the moment he is on a series of seven wins. The Georgians last fought in September at UFC 266, finishing with strikes on the ground in the second round of Marlon Moraes.
Two diverse fighters meet. Aldu is a striker, and Dvalishvili is strong primarily in wrestling. Despite the fact that Dvalishvili is at his peak, which cannot be said about Aldo for a long time, the ex-UFC champion is stylistically extremely inconvenient for the Georgian “Machine”.
Dvalishvili will probably rely on his fight, however Aldu still defends well against takedowns. We believe that the veteran will keep the fight on his feet and outmaneuver his opponent due to his class, technique and experience.
