Jose Aldo returns to the UFC

Former WEC and UFC featherweight champion and former UFC lightweight title challenger Jose Aldo, who notified the world’s strongest league of his retirement in September 2022, will resume his career after a nearly two-year hiatus.

According to ESPN, the legendary Brazilian will take part in UFC 301, which will take place on May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, and the opponent of the UFC Hall of Fame member will be American Jonathan Martinez, ranked fourteenth in the rankings of the organization’s lightweight division.

Jose Aldo, 37, last stepped into the octagon in August 2022, losing by unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili in a potential contender’s bout.

Jonathan Martinez, 29, is riding a five-fight win streak, finishing Adrian Yaniz by second-round technical knockout in his last fight.

The day before, UFC officials officially announced that the main event of the organization’s next Brazilian event will be a featherweight title fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg.
