Jorge Masvidal has had his trial rescheduled after an assault on Colby Covington, a former friend.
On Wednesday, the hearing was held at Miami-Dade County Courthouse. The case was then continued. The pre-trial hearing is scheduled for May 10,. Trial will now begin in May 22.. Two-time title challenger, Covington, is charged with assaulting Covington March 2022 in Miami Beach. He was then arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including criminal mischief and aggravated battery.
During the hearing, Masvidal’s defense attorney Saam Zangeneh was hopeful that the case could be resolved by the end of March, and that a trial would not be necessary.
Masvidal is currently scheduled to face Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287, which takes place April 8 in Miami. This will mark the return of Covington to the octagon, and it will also be “Gamebred’s first fight since that alleged incident.
Masvidal has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was told to keep at least 25 foot from Covington and to avoid any contact with him at all costs. If convicted of the Florida aggravated battery case, Masvidal could spend up to 15 year in prison.
