Jon Jones issued a statement after the fight with Stipe Miocic was canceled

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who pulled out of his fight against Stipe Miocic due to a torn pectoral muscle, spoke about his well-being and also confirmed the information that he is going to fight his compatriot after his recovery.

“Thank you to everyone who contacted me to see how I was feeling,” the American said in a video posted on social media. “Obviously it’s a very sad situation, I’m very upset. But I’ve been through a lot in my life and injuries are part and parcel of an athlete’s career. And I want to thank the UFC for referring me to the best doctor in the country.”

“I want to say thank you to Stipe Miocic for all the work he’s done and also apologize to him and his team. Thanks to my coaches and sparring partners, everyone who helped me get this far. But the goal is to have the surgery tomorrow, and get back to work as soon as possible. I guess we’ll meet Stipe later – that’s my plan.”

That said, Jones did not rule out attending the bout between Sergey Pavlovic and Tom Aspinall, who will play for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt in two weeks.

“So, I have surgery and a few months of physical therapy ahead of me, but I’m committed and I’m holding my head high. Thanks to everyone who prayed for me, love you all. And I want to apologize to the fans separately. I know some of you really wanted to get to Madison Square Garden, and I hope the other heavyweights, Aspinall and Sergey give you a great show. I might even be at the event to watch. Love you all, and your boy Jon Jones will be fine. Take care.”

Recall that the fight between the Russian and the British will be the second most important event of the tournament UFC 295, which will be held on November 11 in New York.
