British super middleweight John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) says WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol showed exactly how to beat Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs). But he himself, if he gets a chance to meet the Mexican in May, will not try to follow this pattern.
Instead, the Brit wants to go out and force the superstar into close combat.
“I think Bivol showed how to beat Canelo by boxing from a distance and then closing the distance with a shuttle,” said Ryder, 34.
Secondsout. – Saul is a great fighter, but, as I said, he hasn’t been in the best shape lately. It’s not like I’m going to fight a “weak” Alvarez because he’s far from it, but who knows if his best days are behind him?”
“I don’t think he got lazy,” Ryder said of the 33-year-old Canelo. “I think he is already getting old, but he still knows what to do to get what he wants. Take your foot off the gas from time to time, know when to rest, and know what to do in training. Obviously, you can’t beat at the maximum all the time in the camp. ”
Hearn calls Canelo a ‘perfect fight’
Ryder admits that Canelo is “destructive” in the middle distance.
“His timing, accuracy is first class. I’m going to try something different, like trying to box him in close combat where he doesn’t fight that often,” John said. “People have seen him boxing from a distance, he likes it. This is his comfort zone.”
Previously, John has already told how he is going to beat Canelo.
