Joe Rogan called Alex Volkanovski the best fighter in the world

Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, ranked as the organization’s second best fighter regardless of weight class, should top the UFC’s P4P list, commentator Joe Rogan of the world’s strongest league believes.

As an argument, the American analyst cites the Australian’s fight with Islam Makhachev, in which the Russian won by unanimous decision, but was knocked down in the last round.

“He’s the best fighter in the world regardless of weight,” Rogan said on another edition of his podcast. “They don’t put him at No. 1 on the UFC’s P4P rankings because he lost to Islam Makhachev, but I think we have enough of an argument that he won that fight.”

“In my opinion, Volkanovski won this fight. He did more damage and imposed his game. That’s insanely impressive considering the fact that he moved up from welterweight to fight a big lightweight. Islam is one of the biggest guys in this division, but at the end of the fight, Volkanovski was on top and was beating him up. He dropped him, was smashing him from the top, and he had some impressive moments throughout the fight.”

“This fight showed how good Volkanovski is, as well as the vulnerability of Islam, who people said about him being unstoppable. The more interesting thing is the rematch between Makhachev and Oliveira. Looking at Charles’ fight with Benil Dariush, it feels like he’s back”

Following his loss to the Russian, Alex Volkanovski returned to featherweight and successfully unified the current and interim titles by finishing Yair Rodriguez by third-round technical knockout, and a rematch between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira will headline UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 21.
