Jake Paul targets Canelo Alvarez: ‘There’s no excuse’ not to fight at cruiserweight

Jake Paul uses his platform to continue to fight Canelo Alvarez, a boxing champion.

On Wednesday the YouTuber and boxing superstar gave himself three years in preparation for his fight with the super-middleweight champion, who this fall was approved to pursue a fifth title in the boxing division (175 to 200 lbs.

“Maybe not right now, but in three years, it could happen for sure,” Paul told FightHype.com. “It’s the top two names out of five that are going to go head-to-head. It’s time to make it happen. He has a huge pay-per view and my earnings are greater than those of any of his competitors.

“He’s already talked about moving to cruiserweight, so there’s really no excuse.”

Paul, who has boxed around the 190-pound mark professionally, was two months away from his knockout victory over former UFC champ Tyron Woodley. Social influencer Paul was visiting New York Wednesday in order to promote the unifier of women’s boxing titles between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor promoted by Matchroom Boxing.

After a dispute with Golden Boy Promotions’ longtime promoter, Oscar De La Hoya (ex-champ), Canelo teamed up with Matchroom. Most Valuable Promotions is headed by Paul and Nakisa Bidarian (Paul’s manager, Nakisa De La Hoya).

At 5-0, Paul would be a massive underdog against Alvarez, who’s widely considered one of the best boxers in the sport. The former Disney actor will deliver on his promise of bringing attention to the fight that would lead to more money at the box-office. This appeal has prompted scores of boxers to contact Paul.

Paul has his eyes set on one of boxing’s biggest stars.

“Three years from now, I think I can get the job done,” he said.
