According to overseas sources, the issue of holding a duel between the unified world welterweight champion (up to 66.7 kg) American Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) and his compatriot, ex-champion Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs ), the matter is practically solved.
So, it is already known that the parties of the boxers agreed on the terms of the fight in April – the meeting will be held in the limit up to 69.9 kg without the WBC / WBA Super / IBF titles owned by Spence.
In this regard, another welterweight champion, holder of a secondary WBA World title, Lithuanian Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs) considers it unfair that he will not get the fight with Spence: “It’s not fair. Sports must move. He (Spence) does not perform, getting injured. So deal with them, come back and fight those who are in line. You can’t skip the line, it’s not fair. Although I understand it from a business point of view, because Thurman has a bigger name, and I’m not so well known in the US.
It is worth noting that Stanionis had planned a defense against Virgil Ortiz for March, but the Lithuanian unexpectedly ended up on the operating table, and now the fight will be postponed until at least April.
And Stanyonis is sure that it will be very difficult for Virgil Ortiz with him.
