Promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank) is set to organize next year a fight between his near-pound top fighters – Ukrainian lightweight Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) and the unified lower division champion American Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs). Apparently, we are talking about a fight in the light weight limit.
The conqueror of three divisions, Lomachenko, had the opportunity to go to Australia in the summer and fight for all the lightweight belts with the local sensational champion George Kambosos Jr., but the military invasion of Russia into the territory of Ukraine interfered – the boxer put his gloves aside for a while, joined the defense forces.
Recently it became known that Lomachenko’s return to the ring will take place in October.
Arguing Arum: “You remember that Lomachenko has not boxed since December. So even his comeback I would not call accurate and 100%. This is what we are striving for. We want to get him back in the ring, we hope that everything will work out. If he gets the go-ahead to get out of the defense for a while, then we can get him a fight in October. Then we can plan something significant for next year.”
Arum is referring to a specific fight: “The fight we’re really looking forward to doing is a fight between Lomachenko and Stevenson. It’s not about making it next. It’s about doing it next year. It’s not a pity to die for the fight Lomachenko vs Stevenson. And they both want this fight. In the meantime,[Top Rank VP]Carl Moretti is working to find a worthy comeback opponent for Lomachenko.”
Recently, we tried to play Moretti and selected the top 16 options for October for Lomachenko. Meanwhile, all the tops of the division are threatened by Ryan Garcia: “First I kick Davis’ ass. Then Lomachenko, Lopez and Haney.”
