In a conversation, Dmitry answered a question about his future, expressed a desire to fight with the winner of the Beterbiev-Smith pair, spoke about a possible revenge against the absolute champion of the second middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) Mexican Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs ), expressed his opinion about the upcoming trilogy fight Alvarez – Golovkin and answered other questions.
How will your career develop now? Who is the fight and when?
– It is not yet known with whom and when. I am still in the stage of a short vacation, and we are waiting for some official proposals.
– We would be interested to see your unification fight with the winner of the Beterbiev-Smith pair. Are you interested?
“That’s what interests me the most, really. That is, from the fight with Alvarez, I got what I wanted in principle, that is attention. But there are main goals – these are belts. Of course, I would like to. But how it is possible to organize it is another matter, because I have obligations regarding revenge. That is, if Canelo wants a rematch, we will have to provide it.
— David Benavidez, Gilberto Ramirez, Jaime Munguia are also your possible rivals. Do you have any preferences for this trio?
– There is not much for this trio. I prefer belts more. But if we talk like that about the personal, then maybe it’s with Ramirez. Because he makes a lot of statements that conflict with real facts. Somewhere he distorts these facts. I would like to box with him.
– Can I say that there is something personal to him to some extent?
— To some extent, yes. Just a little, but probably yes. Because it’s all boiled with us for a long time: a fight, not a fight.
– Can you say that a rematch with Canelo will be easy money for you?
I can’t say it’s easy. Money – yes. The fight with Canelo is in any case money, but at the expense of the lungs, I would not say.
“Do you really want to have this rematch?”
– If you choose between unification fights and revenge, then, of course, for my own pride or my history, I would like more unification fights. But a rematch is also good.
Alvarez reveals he’ll change in Bivol rematch
“I’ve probably rewatched my fight with Canelo more than once.
– I watched my fight once, yes. Of course, there are mistakes, there are moments where it was possible to refine more, but on the whole I am satisfied. In principle, I convinced the judges that I won. It’s already great.
– You said that you are ready to go down to super middleweight, to the weight of Alvarez, in order to take all the titles in this weight category. Will it be easy to shed the weight?
– Actually, I said, but you need to think, really. In principle, on the one hand, I can lose weight, but it depends on the conditions. If we just press you under all conditions, of course, this is wrong, but if you get together, approach the weight correctly, understand what it’s all about, then you can think about it. I don’t know if Alvarez will be interested in super middleweight this fight or not. How will the viewer perceive it? Also unknown. Maybe he won’t take it very well, or maybe on the contrary, it will be more interesting.
– And if Golovkin beats Canelo, will you be ready for the fight with Gennady?
– Firstly, the fight with Gennady was not discussed. And I have already stated, I have obligations to Canelo, that I must give him revenge.
Even if Canelo loses?
“Actually, yes, it doesn’t matter. Within 6-9 months, in my opinion, they should express a desire to get revenge. It doesn’t matter if he loses or wins – they can activate this option. To be honest, I didn’t even think about the fight with Gennady. I don’t know if he is needed, at what weight and for what.
– The third fight between Canelo and Golovkin has been officially announced, who is the favorite and why?
– Well, probably Canelo is the favorite, because he has already won there twice. It doesn’t matter how the fight, but by the decision of the judges, he won. Once – a draw, the second time – won. There are actually a lot of nuances here. Maybe a plus for Gennady. He is not going to lift weight now. Maybe he will be more attentive, or something. Gennady still has something that he misses blows. He does not feel the impact of 72 kg. Maybe here he will think that at 76 kg, it’s like a heavier blow, maybe it’s worth missing less. Maybe it will be better, I don’t know. But interesting anyway. But I think after my fight with Canelo, many people think that now the fight will become more interesting between Gennady and Canelo.
– And if in percentage terms, how would you scatter them?
– I do not know. I don’t even want to think about it.
– Your coach suggested that Alvarez weighed several kilograms more than you in battle.
– I do not know. Actually, I don’t know how much he weighed. Maybe. Why not. In fact, he has a very wide … I even noticed at the weigh-in, due to which he boxed at 76 kg, due to which he was physically strong. He has a very wide part here [показывает], lower.
