WBA Super light heavyweight world champion (up to 79.4 kg) Russian Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) tentatively agrees to go down from 76.2 kg to compete for the title of absolute division champion in a rematch with Mexican Canelo Alvarez ( 58-2-2, 39 KOs).
Bivol reiterated that this is not his first choice, but admits it would be interesting.
“I already said that this (fight with Canelo) is not a priority for me, but we can (have a rematch). For four belts… It’s interesting. Why not. But don’t forget that I’m a light heavyweight. This is my weight, ”Dmitry emphasized.
“When I competed in 75 kg, I had to fight with weight first, and then with an opponent. And in the end, I decided that I no longer want to race to this limit. But I have already worked with nutritionists and figured out how to make weight,” he said.
“Before weighing in for this fight (with Ramirez), I ate. I had a small breakfast, after which I went to the weigh-in and made weight. So I think we can discuss this[Canelo rematch at 76.2 kg],” Bivol concluded.
Recall that in May of this year, Alvarez rose to the weight of the Russian, but could not take away his title, losing on points. At the end of last week, Bivol made another successful defense, defeating the mandatory challenger and another representative of Mexico, Gilberto Ramirez.
