Islam Makhachev’s former rival sets UFC record

With a split decision over Rick Glenn at UFC Fight Night 229 in Las Vegas, American fighter Drew Dober set a UFC record for the most knockout victories in the history of the organization’s lightweight division.

The American previously had eight knockout victories and the same number as his compatriot Dustin Puryear, but his ninth knockout victory made him the sole record holder.

By finishing his opponent as early as the third minute of the match, Dober put his career back on track after losing to Matt Frevola, to whom he lost by first-round technical knockout in May.

Prior to the Frevola fight, Dober was riding a streak of three wins by knockout, the most recent of which came against Bobby Green.

In March 2021, the American fighter resisted Islam Makhachev for more than two rounds, losing to the Russian by arm-triangle choke in the final three minutes.

Despite his flamboyant style, or rather for that very reason, 34-year-old Drew Dober, who has been competing in the UFC since 2013, is not currently ranked in the organization’s top 10 lightweight division.
