Makhachev will be able to oust Jones from the top spot this weekend if he pulls off a convincing win over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi and prevents the Australian, who holds the featherweight title, from becoming a double UFC champion.
Volkanovski and Makhachev are currently ranked second and third in the UFC’s P4P rankings, respectively.
As for Jon Jones, he will step up to defend his championship belt on November 11 at UFC 295 in New York City, and his opponent will be former division champion Stipe Miocic.
