Islam Makhachev officially named UFC’s best fighter

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has moved up one spot in the organization’s rankings of the best fighters regardless of weight classes, topping the UFC’s P4P list.

The Russian displaced American Jon Jones, who holds the UFC heavyweight title, from the top spot.

One position in the pound-for-pound rankings was lost by former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who swapped places with Jiri Prohazka and moved up to number fourteen.

Meanwhile, Khamzat Chimaev, who defeated Usman in their previous bout, improved his standing in the middleweight division, moving up from ninth to eighth place.

Jailton Almeida, who defeated Derrick Lewis by unanimous decision last weekend, moved from ninth to seventh in the UFC heavyweight division rankings.

Recall that 32-year-old Islam Makhachev made a successful title defense on October 21, knocking out Australian Alexander Volkanovski in the first round, and 36-year-old Jon Jones dropped out of his fight against Stipe Miocic ten days ago after tearing a pectoral muscle.
