Islam Makhachev challenged Leon Edwards

The current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, has joined the list of fighters who want to share the octagon with Briton Leon Edwards, who successfully defended the UFC welterweight title in a rematch with Kamaru Usman.

“I want Leon to be next. October, Abu Dhabi,” the Russian wrote on the social network.

The title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, who headed the UFC 286 tournament in London, went through all five rounds and ended with the defeat of the Nigerian fighter by a majority of the judges’ votes. UFC President Dana White, summing up the results of the fight, announced that the next opponent of Edwards will be the American Colby Covington, who insures the championship fight.

Islam Makhachev, who is scheduled to fight next on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, successfully defended his championship belt in February, defeating Alexander Volkanovski, who holds the featherweight title, by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
