Is Usyk and Joshua’s rematch on the verge of collapse? Answered by Eddie Hearn

Promoter Eddie HearnMatchroom Boxing) planned at the beginning of the month to officially announce the date and venue of the rematch for the WBA Super, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) and Briton Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs).

The businessman claimed that with a high degree of probability the event will take place on July 23 in the Middle East. Given that there is still no announcement, fans and experts began to suspect something was wrong – they do not exclude that the fight will not take place at all.

Hearn claims to still be in power, but does not hide the presence of some problems. Boss Matchroom Boxing plans immediately two high-profile announcements in the coming days: “July 23rd in the Middle East is still the No. 1 favorite. Yes, we are already a little behind schedule, we have almost no time left for this date. Therefore, nosebleeds need to close the issue before the end of the week. I hope we can announce two cool events at the same time. This will be the next fight between Joshua and Canelo Alvarez, two of the biggest stars in the sport.”

The first fight between Joshua and Usyk took place in September in London (England) – the Ukrainian won by decision of the judges. Last week, the Briton was taken aback by the admission that he was preparing for the Ukrainian without a special plan, and then he named his strongest opponent. This is not Usyk.

Canelo’s next opponent is also already known – the Mexican explained why he would first fight Golovkin, and only then Bivol.
