Is an upset possible in the Davis-Garcia fight? Expert opinion

The popular WBA World lightweight champion American puncher Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) will fight on January 7 in the District of Columbia (USA) with the Dominican WBA title holder Hector Luis Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs).

If he wins, it is expected that in April Gervonta will face the equally popular compatriot Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) in perhaps the most potentially box office fight in the current realities of boxing.

Fans consider the January fight of Davis to be “interim”, forgetting that the unbeaten Dominican loudly declared himself last year with two cool victories – he upset the talented American Chris Colbert and took the belt from the Venezuelan Roger Gutierrez. It is Garcia who is the top contender for victory in the Breakthrough of the Year nomination.

I agreethat Davis is going to have an easy ride in January: “The fight against Hector Garcia is definitely not a pushover. This guy confidently beat Colbert, dealt with Gutierrez. This is a really strong boxer. And I think Gervonte should be given credit for agreeing to this fight ahead of the Ryan fight.”

Reyes believes that “fans go a little over the top when they criticize Davis’ opposition. After all, Hector is not just a rival, he is really a top contender. This fight should show everyone how good Gervonta really is.”

Meanwhile, Garcia himself makes it clear that he agreed to this fight not for the money: Tank thinks this is an easy fight? He is not the first. The other day, Ryan Garcia also announced the fight in January.
