Ori claimsthat it was Joshua who inspired him to take up boxing. Promising heavyweight aims to win OI-2024 in Paris (France): “All this is true. I really wanted to be like Joshua. I wanted to imitate him. I understand that a burden of responsibility weighs on me. I understand that it will be even tougher in the future. But, it seems to me, it is the ability to go through this and not break down that makes a fighter unique, not like everyone else. I have been boxing for 5 or 6 years. I feel like I’m slowly developing my own style.”
Ori’s debut at the tournament will take place today in a fight against the winner of the 2022 World Cup
Nigel Paul from Trinidad and Tobago.
Prospect cites national team predecessor Frazier Clark as his mentor. Interestingly, in 2018 he won the Commonwealth Gamesand then took bronze at OI-2020: “We talked a lot about this tournament. About the possibilities it opens up. About how lucky I am that the tournament takes place in my native Birmingham (my parents moved here from Moscow when it was still very small).
