I’m sorry, but Bivol and Canelo’s rematch won’t happen – Ramirez

Mexican light heavyweight Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) is not going to give up his place as a mandatory contender for the WBA world champion Russian Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) and categorically rejected the possibility of a postponement for monetary compensation.

“Of course not, why would I agree to a deal with a delay if I have already received my status as a mandatory challenger and I was guaranteed the title fight that I have been waiting for so long,” Gilberto said.

It is no secret that a rematch between Bivol and Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) is planned for May next year, against whom the Russian won on points in May of the current year.

However, Ramirez is determined to ruin these plans:

“I’m sorry for Canelo, but his rematch with Bivol won’t happen. Only if he still wants to settle the score with him, but after I beat Bivol, Canelo simply has no choice but to fight me.

Gilberto is sure that Bivol will not shy away from meeting him:

“The fight with him must take place. He has already made a name for himself by defeating Canelo. If he refuses to fight me, he will look like a coward, but I do not consider him that. I think he also wants to fight me.”
