WBC world champion in the second flyweight (up to 52.2 kg) American Jesse Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) commented on a bright early victory over the ex-champion from Thailand Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (50-6-1, 43 KOs) last night in San Antonio (USA).
Recall that Rodriguez stopped a seasoned opponent in the eighth round.
“Today my skills showed themselves,” said the winner. “My team knows what I am capable of and what I bring to the ring, which is why we accepted this fight. I felt like I started to break him after three rounds, he lost his power. Knew I wasn’t allowed to take trades, but we put on a show. Robert[Garcia]told me to use the corners more and I listened to him.”
For Rodriguez, this was the first defense of the title, which he won in February of this year, outboxing Carlos Cuadras.
“The fight with Cuadras gave me the necessary experience and allowed me to perform at home in San Antonio. I will do whatever Robert says. I am a special fighter, not some kind of middle peasant. And I’m here for the long haul,” Jesse said.
