Dmitry Bivol – Canelo Alvarez: forecast for the fight on May 8

“I feel like this is my division, my belt. I’m the champion here. I have to win. That’s the only way I think. He’s coming into my division and I have to beat him.”

“Every fighter is different. Maybe he has faced the speed, power, movement like me before, but I’m sure he hasn’t faced the combination of everything that I have. I’m just different.”

“If you want to be successful in boxing or anywhere else, you have to believe in your skills. That means when you believe in your skills, you are very confident. Now I have a chance to show my skills to many boxing fans. “What I wanted when I came into professional boxing. It’s an opportunity to show my skills, to prove to people that I’m a good boxer. Look at me. I only believe in my victory. If you want success, you have to believe.”

Is Canelo in trouble? Donaire explains why Bivol is extremely dangerous

“Of course it’s a great fight for me. We thought about fighting Canelo a few years ago and we had some talks about that fight. When I heard the deal was closed, I was just ready. You know, every opponent is difficult. But this ok this is a new challenge for me Canelo is confidence and experience and strength but I am also a good boxer yes he is good but I shouldn’t think about it all the time I should think about my training I don’t bet on mine size, strength and speed. Boxing isn’t all about hard punches. It’s about how you do it. With power, with speed, it doesn’t matter. I just need to get more punches to his head and body. Of course, I’ll try shake him as much as I can if I see an opportunity.”

“This is my second time at Indio. Most of my camps have been in LA. I love it here. This is the Joel Diaz gym.”

“I don’t think about where I am now at light heavyweight. I’m first, second, it doesn’t matter. I just have a belt and I have to defend it against another opponent from a different weight class. That’s what I think about. I don’t think about rankings, I’m not a boxing fan. I’m a boxer and just doing my job. I like the gym because it’s big. There are a lot of heavy bags. And above all, there are a lot of good emotions, because I respect Joel, Tony “It’s good to work in their gym. You feel that you’re in the right place. I’m here with my coach Gennady. He’s been my coach since I turned pro. And he was with me in amateurs. Now Akhmadaliev is training in this gym, Giyasov, Madrimov. When you see guys like that around, it gives you more confidence that you are in the right place. Of course, it means a lot. We support each other. We can discuss each other after sparring. And we can see how the sparring went .Sometimes not so good and we can change something.

“I feel like I’m getting better every year. I hope I’ll be in better shape.”

“Thank you for coming to my camp. See you May 7th.”
