According to the Spanish-Georgian fighter, at the moment he is more interested in confrontations with Max Holloway and Conor McGregor.
“If Islam continues to defend his belt and get bigger and bigger, maybe one day we will meet, but right now I see fights for me against Holloway and McGregor,” Topuria told Sportskeeda MMA. “If Max Holloway can fight in September, we’ll have a fight. If not, we’ll meet at the end of the year. I want to make the fight as soon as possible because I plan to fight at the UFC tournament in Spain next year.”
“So I’m hoping to make a defense against Max Holloway and then I want to fight Conor McGregor. Hopefully Conor wins his next fight and our fight happens. It will be the biggest fight in MMA history, record breaking in ticket sales and pay-per-view broadcasts. We will gather 80,000 spectators at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.”
As a reminder, Islam Makhachev will defend his UFC lightweight title against Dustin Porier on June 1 at UFC 302 in Newark, and Conor McGregor will face Michael Chandler on June 29 at UFC 303 in Las Vegas.
