Former world heavyweight champion Briton Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) is approaching the upcoming rematch against WBA / WBO / IBF title holder Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) in excellent spirits, satisfied with the joint work with the new team coach Robert Garcia.
This was told by the boxer’s promoter Eddie Hearn.
“I think Joshua is confident in the game plan (for the rematch), confident in what he has to do in the ring. I think he’s in great spirits,” Hearn says. “He knows what mistakes he has made in the past and he knows he has to correct them, but he is also very confident in himself. I think he likes that Robert Garcia has been added to the process.”
Eddie believes that there is nothing wrong with losing to a boxer like Usyk. But this does not change the fact that Joshua thinks only about winning – including because of a potential British mega fight against WBC world champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs):
“If you lose, you lose to the leader of the pound, after which you regroup and get down to business again. But obviously you want to win. And if he wins, I am sure that the fight with Tyson Fury will take place. Well, if not, he will return to the position of the applicant.
Recall that in September last year, Joshua lost to Usyk on points in England, and the rematch is scheduled for August 20 in Saudi Arabia.
Interestingly, Hearn previously stated the following: Joshua will fight Fury, no matter how the rematch with Usyk turns out.
