No. 4 and No. 6 in the women’s P4P rating (according to The Ring magazine), respectively, American Jessica McCaskill (12-3, 5 KOs) and Briton Shantel Cameron (17-0, 8 KOs) played in a head-to-head fight for the title of absolute world champion in first welterweight (up to 63.5 kg). The British won.
McCaskill is the undisputed champion of the division above, and McCaskill is the owner of two belts (WBC and IBF) at 63.5 kg. Two more titles (WBA and WBO) were vacant. It is possible that soon the ladies will meet in revenge – they will fight for all McCaskill’s 66.7 kg belts, as Cameron dreams of becoming an absolute in two weights.
Cameron got off to a great start. Controlled the distance, jabbed, didn’t let McCaskill force a fight, moved great. The American looked unbalanced, sweeping. She rushed head first and threw wide swings with the hope of accidentally cutting down her opponent.
Technically, there is an abyss between them. But McCaskill does not win by skill – she is powerful, aggressive, terribly uncomfortable and with a very solid workrate. Oddly enough, but Cameron is absolutely not worried. Master class from the British.
But she got cut after a headbutt. And in the second half of the fight, the fight turned out to be a little more forceful, and the American began to get at least something. I wonder how many rounds the judges will give her.
