“He’s hungry again.” Joshua’s new coach is determined to upset Usyk

American top coach Robert Garcia, who was involved in the preparation of British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) for a rematch against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs), believes that the reason for Anthony’s defeat in the first fight was his wrong actions predecessor on the coaching bridge, Robert McCracken.

Recall that for the rematch, tentatively scheduled for August, Joshua is preparing under the leadership of the tandem of Garcia and Angel Fernandez.

“When you are up against an opponent who is much smaller than you, and you have an advantage in weight, height, arm length and power, then you should take advantage of this advantage. They seem to have a different game plan. Although I would not even like to say that it was in the (wrong) game plan. Maybe they were just misdirections,” Garcia suggested. “Anthony is the type of fighter who listens to his corner, so he did what he was told and that advice was totally out of place. But now he listens to us and is happy that we are working together, he is hungry again and told us that he wants to do it for himself, but also for us. He just said, “You deserve this victory, and I want to do it for you.”

“It’s just great, you rarely see this among fighters,” the coach said. Most of them think of themselves. Yes, they love their mentors, and yes, they want to win big fights together, but in the end it all comes down to them. And he (Joshua) told us that it would be for us.”

“Search and Destruction”. Bellew advised Joshua on a rematch with Usyk

Garcia sees nothing wrong with the fact that he actually has no experience with heavyweights:

“People say, ‘Oh, he doesn’t train heavyweights’ or ‘He’s too small to hold on his paws.’ Guys, my job is to lead him right, give good advice and develop a good game plan, and my size does not mean at all that I cannot tell a heavyweight how to fight and what he needs to do to win.

“I’ve done this many times before, it’s all about me, not who I train – heavyweight, welterweight or featherweight. I was already in a position where no one believed in my fighter, but we went into the ring against world champions and made upsets, ”added Robert.
