“If Aljamain Sterling is playing this game that he’s not ready and he needs more time, then let’s arrange an interim title fight between me and Sean O’Malley,” the Triple Champion stated in a video posted on his channel in YouTube. “Or, I’m willing to insure a title fight if the UFC wants to have me as a safety net. Only I want to receive financial compensation for this.”
Three weeks ago, Cejudo made an unsuccessful attempt to take away the championship belt from Sterling, losing to the defending champion by a split decision after five rounds.
After the announcement of the fight against O’Malley, Sterling said that injuries would not allow him to return to the octagon in three months, however, a public showdown with Dana White set the champion in a fighting mood and he promised the UFC president to defend the title.
Recall that the bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley will be the main event of the UFC 292 tournament, which will be held August 19 in Boston.
