Helenius’ first interview after being knocked out by Wilder: ‘A little sad’

Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius (31-4, 19 KOs) gave his first interview since his 1st round knockout loss to Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs), the former WBC champion, from whom it is unclear whether he is retiring or still wait a while before deciding for sure.

According to Rob, the American surprised by the fact that he very quickly adjusted to his attacking style and caught him on the punch: “He is a good boxer. I didn’t think he would adapt so quickly.”

When asked if Deontay’s punching power in their past sparring was different from what it was in battle, Helenius smiled mirthlessly and said that, of course, there is a difference: “In sparring, I boxed on the way out, but here I went forward. So yes, I felt everything. Heh. And he got knocked out.”

Usyk or Ruiz. Wilder was asked who he fights

“I’m fine. I’m a little sad because I thought I could do better. He just got me. I wish the fight had lasted longer… In fact, it didn’t even really start. It’s hard. In my heart while the cats scratch. But that’s just boxing. Time needs to pass. He is a good man. I respect him very much. I am glad that I lost to Wilder, ”said the Scandinavian to Blue Blood Sports TV.

After seemingly hinting at retirement from the sport while talking to Wilder at the hotel the day after the fight, Helenius is no longer so confident about his retirement.

“For now, I can not say it. Time will tell,” summed up Robert.

This victory took Deontay to the final of the WBC Candidates race. Ahead is a fight with the Mexican ex-world champion Andy Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs).

Wilder warns everyone that boxing is not a sport.
