Haney is afraid of Stevenson, and only a name remains of Lomachenko? Davis is cautious with forecasts

2022 prospect winner American lightweight Kishon Davis (7-0, 5 KOs) shared his thoughts on the state of affairs in the division.

Soon, the fight for the title of absolute lightweight champion will be officially announced – at the end of May, the owner of all belts, American Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs), will fight with Ukrainian veteran Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs).

By
opinion Davis, “it was very strange to hear from Lomachenko what he said to Devin after defeating Jemaine Ortiz. He said he was huge, like a heavyweight. He had never said anything like that before. He used to be a monster. I think he himself feels that he will never be the same again, he feels that he is getting old. Don’t forget that the dude had multiple shoulder surgeries and had 400 fights as an amateur. I think it’s on the decline.”

Davis pays tribute to Lomachenko: “Great fighter, great fighter. I think that even now he can still become a champion. But he’s out of his weight against younger fighters. They are hungry. They are the same as he was when he turned pro. It will be difficult for him. Mileage, injuries, age. All of this has an effect.”

Prospect thinks Haney will move up to super lightweight after the Lomachenko fight: “If he stays here, he will have to fight Shakur Stevenson. And I don’t think he would like that. Yeah, I don’t think Haney wants to fight Stevenson. Understand that we fighters know a hell of a lot of things that you don’t. Just trust that he doesn’t want it. Had he accepted this fight? Oh, I would be very surprised! I’d say, “Wow! The dude actually has balls!” But he won’t. It’s a pity, because it would have turned out to be a cool fight. Hell fight! Megaboy!

Then Davis picked his words carefully. “Look, Devin, he’s really big. It is difficult for him to make a light weight limit. I’m not saying he’s afraid of Shakur. I think he’s tired of the weight cut, so he’ll want to get up. I think that Haney and Lomachenko will get a cool fight. Such an infernal fight!”

But Haney and Lomachenko have not even agreed yet. The champion wants concessions from the challenger. What does it mean? The experts know.
