Habib’s native village renamed in honor of his father

The Dagestani village of Kirovaul, where Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov lived and was buried for a long time, has been renamed in honor of the honored coach of Russia, who raised 18 world champions in combat sambo and two of the world’s best MMA fighters.

The settlement, located in the Kizilyurt district of Dagestan and having a population of just over three thousand people, is now officially called Manapkala, the relevant order having been signed the day before by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The desire of the residents to rename the village three years ago was reported by its head Magomedrasul Davudov, and in February of this year the deputies of the People’s Assembly of Dagestan supported this initiative by a majority vote.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, whose pupil is also Islam Makhachev, passed away in July 2020 at the age of 58 from complications after a coronavirus, having not lived to see his two best pupils named the world’s best fighters regardless of weight category.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, who held the UFC lightweight title, fought one more fight after his father’s death and ended his professional career by entering the UFC Hall of Fame, while Islam Makhachev took his place and became the division’s dominant champion, topping the UFC’s P4P rankings.
