UFC 273 tournament bout
The fight will take place on April 10 in Jacksonville (Florida, USA) at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena and will be the third most important fight at the UFC 273 PPV tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 06:00 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
An intriguing welterweight bout between No. 2 Gilbert Burns (20-4) and No. 11 Khamzat Chimaev (10-0).
A 6-match winning streak in February 2021 brought Btrns to fight against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but in the end, the Nigerian Nightmare defended the title by knocking out the Brazilian in the 3rd round. In July, Durinho closed the loss with a unanimous decision over Stephen Thompson.
Chimaev made a lot of noise from his first weeks in the UFC, winning three bouts in 66 days. Due to the severe course of covid illness, Chimaev took a break from performances for 13 months, returning in October at UFC 267. Chimaev simply declassed top 15 fighter Li Jingliang, stopping him with a choke in the first round.
Chimaev is a huge favorite who has finished all ten of his opponents. He is stronger as a wrestler and looks better as a striker. In addition, Burns is noticeably inferior to Chimaev in size and physical strength. Chimaev has yet to face competition in MMA, and many predict it will be the same this time around.
However, Chimaev does not have high-class rivals on his resume, which, of course, is Burns. Burns has a powerful single strike, but his main weapon is grappling. He is a master of BJJ, probably the best in the division in this component. In addition, Burns has serious fighting experience, which is not even close to Chimaev. Let’s take a chance and assume that Chimaev flunks his first big test in MMA and at some point falls into the opponent’s grappling trap.
