Gennady Golovkin to retire? The boxer’s lawyer commented on the rumors

40-year-old world middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) is not going to end his career, despite the fact that he had already been forced to give up the IBF title, and now he may lose WBA Super belt.

The boxer’s lawyer John Hornever spoke about the situation.

“Gennady is not leaving, he is still trying to evaluate all the options available in order to arrange the best fight for the fans,” said Hornever. “The mandatory defense negotiation period against Falcao was supposed to end next week, but instead of going through with it, Gennady felt that it would be better if the fight did not take place, and it would be right to give them the opportunity to determine a new champion as soon as possible.”

According to a GGG representative, they were ready to hold a mandatory defense, but Falcao’s candidacy did not interest any of the potential organizers.

“In the end, he (Golovkin) just said, ‘If there’s still no fight, let’s let this guy fight for the vacant title,’ Hornever recounts. – Falcao patiently waited for his chance, let’s give him the road to the title. I’m not leaving, but there won’t be a fight with Falcao, so thanks to him, IBF and Top Rank for being patient.”

At the same time, Hornever stressed that “if the WBA insists on Golovkin’s fight with Erislandy Lara, we may have the same problem.”

As you know, the WBA is already insisting: the boxers were given only 15 days to negotiate, after which promotional bidding will take place
