British lightweight champion Maxi Hughes (25-5-2, 5 KOs) claims that he was personally approached by a popular American fighter, eternal challenger Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) – he offered to face off in a head-to-head fight.
“Well, I don’t want to hurry and rejoice prematurely, –
Hughes says. – So far, I am completely focused on the preparation, because I have already been offered a date. Ryan called me personally. That is, I know for sure that this proposal comes from him. Agree, why would he just write to someone and offer a fight? I already told my team to do everything they can to make this fight happen. And if not, then I will fight (ex-champion two categories below) Kid Galahad.
Interestingly, earlier Hughes promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) has already said that Ryan Garcia will perform in England in the summer. In March, the champion defended the title, as part of the show, Prospect Smith almost flew in with a disqualification: video.
Garcia verbally dreams of fights with full-fledged champions – compatriots Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis. He negotiated with the latter for a long time, but then his promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced that he was going to Teofimo Lopez.
