Fury vs. Joshua: Promoter on date, rematch clause and fee distribution

Boss Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn spoke in detail about the progress of negotiations on the organization of the fight between the two British heavyweight antagonists – current and former world champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs).

WBC belt holder Fury was set to fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk before the end of the year, but he made it clear that he would not be able to enter the ring due to an injury. After that, Tyson turned to Anthony – he gave the go-ahead. Hearn’s promoter later officially confirmed that they had accepted Fury’s financial terms.

“Fury’s offer is a 60/40 prize pool split, a rematch clause in the contract in case Joshua wins,”
tells Hearn. “They also insist on holding the fight in early November. Of course, I immediately turned to Joshua to discuss all this. I think he deserves more than 40%, but Anthony is happy with the offer. And the final word is always his. It is for this reason that we have previously announced that we accept the financial terms.”

“We insist that in the event of a rematch, the distribution of the prize pool remains the same – 60% to the champion and 40% to the challenger,” Hearn said in detail. – And we would like the fight to take place in December. Moreover, they have reserved Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 17 December. This would be the perfect date for us. Again, there are still many hours of discussion ahead. Moreover, Anthony has an exclusive contract with DAZN. But I’ve already had preliminary talks with George Warren (son of Fury’s promoter Frank Warren) to have the event simulcast on DAZN and BT Sports“.

“They wanted a 50/50 distribution of the prize pool in the rematch. But I believe that we will agree to leave 60/40 in favor of the champion in both cases. I don’t think this will be a problem. What do I think about having a rematch clause? Look, I won’t shout about it. We ourselves wrote this clause in the agreements when Joshua was the champion, ”recalls Hearn.

While negotiations are underway with Fury, Joshua showed his “office”. Meanwhile, the champion hurries the challenger: “Next year I’ll be busy with Usyk.”
