Officials from the world’s strongest league made the announcement this past weekend during the broadcast of UFC 297, and the official induction ceremony will take place this summer at International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Frankie Edgar, 42, became UFC champion in April 2010, taking the title from B.J. Penn, and has since made three successful defenses of the belt, defending it in a rematch with the Hawaiian and two confrontations with Gray Maynard.
After suffering two title defeats to Benson Henderson in 2012, Edgar made an unsuccessful attempt to take the featherweight championship belt from Jose Aldo, losing to the Brazilian by unanimous decision. Three years later, the American lost again to Aldo by unanimous decision, this time in a fight for the interim championship belt.
From 2020 to 2022, Frankie Edgar competed in the organization’s lightweight division, where he won one victory and suffered three defeats before ending his professional career as a fighter.
