Francis Ngannou has spoken out about ending his career

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who is set to share the ring with former world boxing champion Anthony Joshua in less than 24 hours, plans to end his professional career in three years and retire from the world of combat sports.

“What do I want people to say about my legacy? When I retire from fighting, it’s just going to be the end of my fighting career,” the 37-year-old “Predator” said on another edition of the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “I think I’m going to retire at 40 years old, which is three years from now. That’s what I have in mind.”

“At 40, I’ll have half my life ahead of me to do a lot of things. I’ll probably go back to school, learn something I really want to do, and then start a new career. So right now, I’m just building the foundation for a legacy – it’s going to be a very big tower.”

The Cameroonian also revealed how, in a difficult financial situation, he turned down a five million dollar offer from the UFC to get rid of his contract with the world’s strongest league.

“I refused to sign a new agreement and fought my last fight for six hundred thousand dollars instead of fighting for five million dollars under a new contract. At that point I owed my friend Kamar Usman two hundred thousand.”

Francis Ngannou reportedly earned at least ten million dollars for his debut fight under boxing rules against Tyson Fury, while the Cameroonian is guaranteed twenty million dollars for the fight against Anthony Joshua.
