“In this fight, I would rate the chances of winning as 50/50,” the Cameroonian heavyweight said while speaking to reporters at an open workout in Las Vegas. “I fought Stipe twice and I know how good he is. He might not look like it, but I know how tough he is and how good he is. I know that as well as anyone and I don’t consider him a known loser. He shouldn’t be written off.”
Also “The Predator”, who is currently preparing for a boxing match against Tyson Fury, confirmed that he still wants to fight Jones, but made it clear that a fight with the American is not a necessity for him.
“I don’t feel like I need it – I just want it. Wanting and needing are not the same thing.”
In January 2018, Francis Ngannou made an unsuccessful attempt to take the UFC heavyweight title from Stipe Miocic, losing to the champion by unanimous decision over five rounds, and three years later the Cameroonian took a convincing rematch, knocking out the American in the second round. Having successfully unified the interim and current titles against Cyril Gagne, “The Predator” left the organization as a free agent earlier this year, subsequently signing with the PFL league and a contract for a boxing match with “The Gypsy King”, which will take place on October 28 in Riyadh.
In March of this year, Jon Jones resumed his career after a three-year hiatus, finishing Cyril Gana with a guillotine in two minutes to win the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt, while Stipe Miocic did not return to the octagon following his loss to Francis Ngannou.
