Erin Blanchfield: “I want to take the title from Shevchenko”

Having dealt with Jessica Andrade ahead of schedule, Erin Blanchfield is going to make an even bigger upset and take away the UFC flyweight championship belt from Valentina Shevchenko.

“I always try to think ahead of what I’m going to say after a win,” Blanchfield said in a press conference after UFC Fight Night 219. “Because this is a very emotional moment and you can just get confused.”

“I knew that by beating someone like her, especially early, I would earn the next fight for the title, but I don’t mind fighting one more fight. The title fight is in two weeks and it could be perfect, but if they want me to do another fight, I’ll get more experience.”

On March 4 at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, Valentina Shevchenko will defend her title against Alexa Grasso, and Blanchfield believes that the “Bullet” will successfully cope with this task.

“Definitely, I would prefer to fight Shevchenko. I think she will beat Grasso. Grasso is a very tough fighter, but I want to be the one to take the title from Shevchenko.”

Recall that the fight between Jessica Andrade and Erin Blanchfield, who headed the event held in Las Vegas, ended at around 1:37 of the second round with the victory of the American by rear naked choke.
