DWCS Season 6: Week 4 results: Esteban Ribovics caps off 5-contract night with faceplant KO

Esteban Ribovics closed the show and kept his 100 percent finish rate in tact in emphatic fashion

In the lightweight headliner of DWCS Season 6, Week 4, Ribovics just needed 90 seconds to dispatch of Thomas Paull to move to 11-0 in his professional career, and more importantly, earn a UFC contract in the process.

UFC President Dana White also awarded the UFC’s fellow winners, Hailey Cowan and Jose Johnson contracts.

Ribovics came out firing, which Paull was more than happy to engage with until an accidental low blow landed about 15 seconds into the fight. The leather flew from both sides as the fight resumed. A cut opened up above the right eye of Paull before Ribovics landed a thunderous right hand that faceplanted Paull. Ribovics landed a few follow-up shots and the fight was called by Jason Herzog at 1:30 into the opening round.

Ribeiro earns fourth fastest KO in DWCS history

In the middleweight co-main event, Claudio Ribeiro landed a leg kick, before absolutely hammering Ivan Valenzuela with a tremendous left hook and the fight was done just 25 seconds after it began.

Dana White leapt out of her seat to witness the finish. It was the fourth-fastest knockout in DWCS History and Ribeiro’s sixth consecutive stoppage victory.

Johnson gives Cartwright a second chance, handing him his first loss

The anticipated match between Cage Warriors champion Jack Cartwright (bombweight) and Jose Johnson (tightweight) was fast-paced from the beginning.

Johnson landed a big takedown early, but Cartwright was able to scramble and nearly catch Johnson in a D’arce choke. Johnson managed to escape and was even able get Cartwright mounted after the round, where he did the greatest damage.

Cartwright took Johnson’s back less than a minute into the second, but the latter scrambled into a better defensive spot. Cartwright wasn’t busy enough, which forced referee Mark Smith to stand them up before Cartwright immediately shot for another takedown. Johnson again created chaos and scored a stunning body shot as well as a right-hand — until Cartwright scored another takedown. Johnson finished the round with the most impactful strikes, much like the previous.

That momentum carried into the third round where Johnson closed strong and got the unanimous decision win in his second DWCS opportunity, handing Cartwright his first pro loss in the process.

Leite outlasts Cowan in the women’s bantamweight clash

Hailey Cowan started off well, but had to hold on to the game Caludia Leone.

The second round saw a massive momentum swing for Leite as she got on top of Cowan and nearly submitted her on more than one occasion. Cowan survived a tight submission in the arm triangle to reach the third round.

Cowan got a crucial takedown in the third round and landed some right hands before attempting to trap the arm of her opponent. Cowan took the back and moved to mount, but Leite made use of Cowan’s inexplicable desire to take the lead — where she would remain for the rest of the fight. In the end, Cowan was awarded the split decision nod.

In the lightweight opener Serra-Longo’s Nazim Sadykhov beat Team Alpha Male’s Ahmad Hassanzada in the first two rounds, before scoring a fierce overhand right knockout the third round.
