Dustin Poirier names his dream opponent

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier, who is second in the division, has named a fighter he would like to share the octagon with in his best years.

The American, who has fought almost every top fighter of his generation, says he regrets not being the top lightweight when former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn was at his best.

“I’d love to fight peak BJ Penn,” Diamond told US Weekly. “Always dreamed about it”

BJ Penn held the UFC lightweight title from 2008 to 2010 and lost it in his first fight with Frankie Edgagr nine months before Dustin Poirier made his debut under the organization’s featherweight banner.

44-year-old BJ Penn spent his last fight in the UFC in May 2019, having suffered his seventh defeat in a row in the confrontation with Clay Guida, however, he did not officially announce his resignation.
