Dustin Poirier announces date for fight with Justin Gaethje

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is set to take on fellow countryman Justin Gaethje this summer.

This American fighter said in an interview with ESPN.

“It looks like the Gaethje fight makes the most sense,” Diamond stated. “I think it will take place this summer. I don’t have specifics yet, but everything seems to be that Justin Gaethje will be next. He challenged me, the people around him say that I will not accept the fight, so I want to tell them that they look like stupid geese.

If the lightweight fight goes ahead, it will be a rematch. Their first confrontation, held in April 2018, ended with the victory of Dustin Poirier by technical knockout in the fourth round.

Dustin Poirier last entered the octagon last November, finishing with a rear naked choke in the third round of Michael Chandler. Prior to that, the Diamond lost ahead of schedule to Charles Oliveira, and also finished Conor McGregor twice.

Last month at UFC 286 in London, Justin Gaethje put his career back on track with a majority win over Rafael Fiziev. Thus, Highlight closed an unsuccessful attempt to take away the UFC lightweight championship belt from Charles Oliveira, whom he lost to in May last year by rear naked choke in the first round.
