Tottenham Hottspur Stadium, London, UK. In the co-main event of the evening, British heavyweight (over 90.7 kg) Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs) successfully made his debut defense of the WBA World belt – the former champion in the (minor) version of the IBO division below Kevin Lerena (28- 2, 14 KOs) from South Africa.
Dubois worked from the jab, scored a nice multi-hit combination, ending with an accented blow to the body. Lerena responded with his combination, hitting the crown of the champion. His legs buckled – he fell! Incredible! Dubois was on the canvas twice more, and without punches. What’s up with the legs?
The champion looked nervous for half of the 2nd three-minute period, and then gradually calmed down, took aim. In the 3rd round, Dubois dropped the left-handed challenger with a straight right. Lerena got to his feet, but was solidly shaken. The champion beat the African, dropped him in the last second of the three-minute period. The referee decided that there would be no 4th round.
Here is the plot!
Dubois TKO 3.
