Former two-weight world champion Joseph Diaz (32-2-1, 15 KOs) will return to the ring on November 5th. Since he has no opponent yet, he would still like to fight top lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) in the California derby. Diaz and Garcia are both under contract with Golden Boy Promotions.
Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a decision to Devin Haney in December. Garcia returned from a hand injury and surgery with two wins in 2022, having recently scored a stoppage against Javier Fortuna. Diaz dealt with Fortune before him, but on points.
“I still want to fight Ryan. We have unfinished business,” he said.
boxing scene.- I saved him twice last year: he refused to fight Fortuna, and I gained weight and fought him in a short time, and won. Then Ryan and I were supposed to fight in November, but he pulled out due to a hand injury. I went and fought Haney, who Garcia never fought even when he had the chance. I would love to fight Ryan. If he doesn’t want to fight at 135 anymore, I don’t mind fighting him at 138 catchweight just to make the fight happen.”
If there were trades in boxing – funny article from ESPN
“The next Jo-Jo wants Ryan, period,” said Rick Mirijian, Diaz’s manager. “If not, then in November he will fight someone top.”
Meanwhile, Ryan himself is looking the other way and wants to fight popular puncher Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs). Davis – Garcia: who is the favorite? Experts argue.
In the spring, Diaz had problems: he sent his nude photo of a minor.
