The American boxer’s opponent could be China’s Zhilei Zhang, who holds the interim WBO world heavyweight title.
This was reported by sports columnist Michael Benson.
“Zhilei Zhang does want to fight Deontay Wilder on March 9 on the undercard of the fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou, according to his manager Terry Lane,” the reporter wrote on social media. “It was previously reported that Zhang and Wilder could both be on the undercard and possibly fight each other.”
Zhilei Zhang won the interim WBO heavyweight championship belt last April by defeating Joseph Joyce by sixth-round technical knockout before knocking out the Briton four months later in the third round, who exercised the right to an immediate rematch.
Deontay Wilder, who was scheduled to fight Anthony Joshua on March 9, suffered a surprise defeat two weeks ago, losing a twelve-round unanimous decision to Joseph Parker.
Earlier it became known that in the main event of the event Anthony Joshua will have a ten-round fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, ranked tenth in the WBC heavyweight rankings.
