UFC Fight Night 200 tournament bout
The fight will take place on February 5 in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) at the UFC Apex sports complex and will become part of the preliminary card of the UFC Fight Night 200 tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 23:00 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
Ukrainian Denis Bondar (14-2) will make his UFC debut in the flyweight division against Malcolm Gordon (13-5).
Bondar is a former WWFC Ukrainian league champion. The last time Psycho from Kharkiv fought back in August 2020 in his hometown at the WWFC – Road to WWFC tournament, where he strangled Kenan Jafarli in the first round. Soon, Bondar signed a contract with the UFC, but all three attempts to debut in the UFC in 2021 were unsuccessful for him. Denis in February was unable to fight against Audie Osbourne, not having time to get an American visa. A fight against Victor Rodriguez was scheduled for May, but a broken leg prevented Bondar from competing at UFC Fight Night 188. The fight with Gordon was originally supposed to take place in November, but for unspecified reasons, the Canadian withdrew from the fight.
Gordon fought his first two fights in 2020 and was stopped in the first round. Amir Albazi strangled him, and Mudaerji Su knocked him out. In July 2021, Gordon won his first victory in the UFC, winning a unanimous decision against Francisco Figueiredo, the brother of UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
Gordon has more experience at a high level than his opponent, and it is likely that his kickboxing skills will make Malcolm look better in the stand.
Bondar won ahead of schedule all of his 14 fights, and 10 by submission. It is the stalls that Gordon should be most afraid of. Bondar has a strong jaw and this can help him land takedowns and earn points on the floor.
Despite the fact that Gordon is also a good grappler, we predict that the Ukrainian will still be able to make his debut in the UFC with an early victory.
Cooper wins by submission in the 2nd round
