The other day promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr.Mayweather Promotions) announced the terms of the fight between popular American punchers Gervonta Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs).
According to him, the fight will take place if Garcia recognizes Davis side A and make some concessions. First of all, this concerns the weight limit – the fight is real only in the light division.
Mayweather compared Davis vs. Garcia to his fight against Ryan’s promoter Oscar De La HoyaGolden Boy Promotions), in which he was forced to go to all the requirements of the opponent, as “he was sure of victory.”
De La Hoya heard Mayweather and reacted – after his words, the Davis vs Garcia fight seems even more unlikely: “Mayweather was a fighter from a lower weight category. I chose gloves, I had a higher market value. I was older. I dictated the terms and took most of the $150 million we generated. So if Gervonta is “confident in winning”, then let him do everything in the same way.”
Davis is the WBA World champion, the formal conqueror of three divisions (in fact, in two he was noted only for minor WBA titles) and the only PPV fighter in the lightweight division. Garcia has never been in a title fight before. Last week he beat the first ex-champion in his career, and drove him two divisions higher.
And here is the prediction for this fight from one of boxing’s greatest legends: Davis knocks out Garcia.
