Daniel Cormier stands up for Aljamain Sterling

Former dual UFC champion Daniel Cormier expressed outrage over the fact that fans in attendance at UFC 288 in Newark booed Aljamain Sterling, who successfully defended the UFC bantamweight championship against Henry Cejudo.

“Guys stop booing Aljamain,” Cormier was quoted as saying by MMA News. “Give credit to this man. This guy, being a champion, does whatever you want. He is active, fights the best guys that are put up against him, wins, and behaves like a champion.

“Time to stop booing Aljamain Sterling. It sucks that this happens again and again, this time in Newark, which is not far from his native New York. It doesn’t make any sense – I don’t know what else this person has to do to earn your respect. If this victory is not enough, then you will never be satisfied.”

The title fight, which headed the number event of the organization last weekend, went the whole distance and ended with the victory of the current champion by a separate judicial decision. According to the UFC plan, Aljamain Sterling will make his next defense on August 19 at UFC 292 in Boston against second-place finisher Sean O’Malley.
