“I wasn’t upset at all – I just didn’t see why Gun tapped until I watched the replay from a different angle,” Cormier wrote on the social media. “You guys certainly know how to create an occasion. In any case, I really don’t care, because I was only there to commentate on the fights.”
Cormier’s mixed reaction attracted the attention of not only fans, but also Jones, who commented on the episode with humor.
“My friend couldn’t even fake a smile, it was pretty funny,” Jones wrote. “I began to ask what happened – such an experienced former champion and analyst suddenly could not identify the guillotine”
The fight for the vacant UFC heavyweight title that headlined UFC 285 in Las Vegas ended at 2:04 of the first round with Jones winning by guillotine choke. Two days later, the American, who resumed his career after a three-year break, took first place in the ranking of the organization’s best fighters, regardless of weight category, and Cormier said that he did not agree with Jones’ first place in the UFC P4P list.
