“Topuria looked great,” the head of the organization said at a press conference following UFC 298. “Wolf is one of the greatest fighters of all time in this weight class. Topuria performed damn good in his previous fight and he performed damn good tonight. If he stays focused and keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s going to be a big force in this division.”
The league executive confirmed the information that Topuria could make the first defense of his title in Spain, but is not yet ready to guarantee an immediate rematch with Volkanovski.
“We will definitely go to Spain, but who he will face, I don’t know yet. I have a lot of respect for Volkanovski, so we’ll see how it plays out. Maybe Alex needs a break, but that’s a question for the medics, not me.”
White also responded to a question from a Spanish journalist who asked him if he would like to host the tournament at the Sanyago Bernabeu soccer stadium in Madrid.
“I would like that. It sounds good.”
